The Institutional Trust Triangle

The Tide Report | Issue #9

March 11, 2026

Healthy governance and strong schools depend on a paradox. Authority must remain clear while institutional understanding must be shared. I’ve been thinking about this balance through what I call the Institutional Trust Triangle, a framework for understanding how leadership, trust, and institutional knowledge move through healthy schools. Holding Steady in a Fractured World

The Tide Report | Issue #7

February 28, 2026

I had a different piece drafted for today, but when I opened the news this morning, the context of it changed. Amid the frenzy of headlines and footage came reports that a girls’ school in Iran had been struck amid escalating conflict, with civilian casualties mounting. When violence reaches a classroom, it is hard to regard it as distant, whether near or far. This morning, I sat with the awareness of how quickly the atmosphere around our work can shift. Full Send

The Tide Report | Issue #5

February 08, 2026

A week before the Olympic downhill, Lindsey Vonn tore her ACL in a training run and was airlifted off the mountain. Most stories would end there, but this one didn’t. Lindsey is famous for the full send. It’s in her DNA to ski so close to the limit that when she said she would leave nothing on the course, commentators admitted it made them nervous, because with her, giving everything has always meant accepting the risk that comes with it. In the donor lifecycle, cultivation and stewardship are described as separate phases, but in practice I think of them as a continuum. The gift does not conclude cultivation, but changes its texture. When stewardship is intentional and relational, the work of deepening trust continues seamlessly rather than resetting after each transaction. Read more →

The Tide Report | Issue #4

We are living in what I think of as the after-the-firsts era of women’s leadership. The question of whether women can lead has been decisively answered. Women lead today across sectors with depth, judgment, intuition, and range. And yet, many institutions have not learned how to fully receive that leadership. Read more →
